Internet

The Internet is a great tool for learning and for information. But it can be as dangerous as it is useful and helpful. With so much information on the Internet -- especially your information -- it is not hard at all for others to steal your identity. Once your identity is stolen, someone can pretend to be you and make life a living hell. Your credit and assets may even be jeopardize, because now that person has access to all of your records and has practically become you. You always want to be careful when on the Internet. Don't take any chances.

Identity Protection on the Internet
What is identity theft?
Identity theft is when someone (criminal) uses someone else's personal information to take on that person's identity. Identity theft is more than just finding and using someone's Social Security number. Most cases deal with credit card fraud and mail fraud. What are some ways to protect yourself from identity fraud or theft on the Internet?

Most identity theft occurs when on public computers. When you use a public computer, do not leave passwords entered in the password field on web sites. It is easy for someone to go back and retrieve passwords to accounts and e-mail addresses this way.

Do not apply for credit cards or anything else online on a public computer unless you ABSOLUTELY have to.

When you're done using a public computer, go back and delete the "History." Without the history, it is impossible for someone to know what sites you've visited. Sites that may contain personal info.

Avoid using public computers if at all possible. If you need to use the Internet, try to find a friend who will let you use their computer. When it comes to Internet privacy, you can never be too careful. Internet safety comes first. Keep safety in mind at all times.
