There is so much information that our children can benefit from on the Internet that we do not want them to stay off it completely, but we also know that there are Internet predators out there so we have to take certain measures that will help them to avoid any and all Internet predators. Because the Internet is such an anonymous place there are few ways in which it can be regulated, that leaves us responsible for our own personal safety as well as that of our children.

There are a few things that can be done to help protect your children from the advances of Internet predators. The first step that one should take is to talk about the danger of Internet predators so that the kids know a little bit about what kind of people are out there. Above and beyond all the tips that you should put into place, your children should always have open dialogue with the parents and feel as though they can come to them for anything. Keep the computer in on the the most open rooms in the house, one that all of the family has access to and is frequently in. Children are much less likely to do something that they even think might be wrong when they know that they could get caught at any moment and many Internet predators will ask children to do things and look at things that the kids will know in their hearts is wrong.
Spend some quality time with your children as they tell you and show you all of the sites that they enjoy and go to the most. Also ask them about the people that they chat with most often. Parent involvement makes a big difference in all aspects of life and children are much less likely to do things that they know their parents will not approve of when the parents are involved in their lives.
Consider getting software that is designed especially for the purposes of keeping an Internet predator at bay.

You do not want to scare a child into thinking that everyone online is dangerous, but they should know about and practice Internet safety. It is crucial to keep abreast and always be avoiding Internet predators.
