With the Internet, things we once thought impossible are completely doable, and there are now new safety issues to consider when online. There is so much variety when it comes to cyber crimes that it's scary. Everything from identity theft to online predators can be found on the Internet. (In fact, it's a virtual playground for online predators.)How do you protect yourself and your child from such dangers? Simple, learn proper online safety. Believe it or not, children can be bullied online. Children may get crude or lewd messages or even threatening messages from other people -- usually their age -- making them feel uncomfortable. But bullying isn't just restricted to the playground. With technology, children can be bullied via cellphone or even e-mail.

Another risk is viruses and hackers. Children -- and even adults -- can download corrupted files, infecting their PCs with a virus, or even making it easy for someone to hack their system. Never download anything from a site you are not sure about. Make sure your computer has some kind of virus protection program (e.g. Norton AntiVirus or McAffee AntiVirus). Some systems have their own firewalls. Firewalls prevent some files from being shared, making it harder for viruses to spread and hackers to get into your system.

You can never be to careful when it comes to online privacy and online safety. You want to alert your children from a young age. The younger you teach them the more at ease your mind will be as they get older. Make sure you follow these simple rules, and enforce them when it comes to your children.
