Don't dive into the shallow end of the pool, and no diving at all in an above-ground pool.
Don't run in the pool area.
No rough-housing.
No swimming (or even being near the pool) during rain or lightening storms.
Don't use inflatable toys as lifesaving devices.

And as adults, here are some pool safety tips you need to know to keep your family and friend safe when at your pool:

Don't leave toys in or near the pool when nobody is in the pool. (The temptation to play with them can draw children to the pool when nobody is around.)
Keep radios, cordless phones and other electrical devices away from the water.
Don't allow children who cannot yet swim be in water that is above their waist-level.

Finally, if you're on the fence about a pool fence, don't be. Even if you don't have small children, keep a pool fence around your pool and make sure it's locked when the pool isn't being used.
