Pool Safety Tips
Pool safety tips are essential for people with pools, whether you have small children or not. And if you do have children, make sure they know and follow the pool safety tips you've given them.
Pool Safety Tips
When it comes to pool safety tips and small children, supervision is key. But when children aren't around, there are still pool safety tips that should be observed.
Making Your Pool A Fun and Safe Place to Be
As with anything, when small children are around and you have a pool, extra safety precautions need to be taken. Even if your child knows how to swim, there are important pool safety tips they must know. And as an adult, the number one pool safety tip is to make sure you don't leave children unsupervised in the pool area.
Here are pool safety tips your children should know:
- Don't dive into the shallow end of the pool, and no diving at all in an above-ground pool.
- Don't run in the pool area.
- No rough-housing.
- No swimming (or even being near the pool) during rain or lightening storms.
- Don't use inflatable toys as lifesaving devices.
And as adults, here are some pool safety tips you need to know to keep your family and friend safe when at your pool:
- Don't leave toys in or near the pool when nobody is in the pool. (The temptation to play with them can draw children to the pool when nobody is around.)
- Keep radios, cordless phones and other electrical devices away from the water.
- Don't allow children who cannot yet swim be in water that is above their waist-level.
Finally, if you're on the fence about a pool fence, don't be. Even if you don't have small children, keep a pool fence around your pool and make sure it's locked when the pool isn't being used. Pool fences and pool alarms will prevent children from getting in your pool unsupervised. If an accident occurs in your pool and you didn't have a locked pool fence, you might get sued. And besides, you don't want anything bad to happen anyway. You want your pool to be a safe and fun place to be, but to do that, you must adhere to the basic rules of pool safety.
